Honoring our heroes

Haven Harbour Marina Resorts • December 20, 2019
Each year, the staff of Haven Harbour Marina Resorts gathers to serve our local community in an act of charitable giving. With hopes of partaking in an event that will occur for many years to come, Haven Harbour with assistance from St. Paul’s churchyard has spearheaded an effort to honor veterans with staff-made holiday swags for laying at the historic cemetery.

The churchyard at St. Paul’s is home to over 240 veteran grave sites, with the oldest dating back to the Revolutionary War era. Swags for each veteran were made in a boat repair shop at Haven Harbour Marina, with each consisting of several locally-sourced spruce and pine branches, topped with holly berries and bound by a cable tie and hand-made bow.

For the laying, Haven Harbour staff was accompanied by churchyard senior warden and Rock Hall American Legion Post 228 member Thomas “Chip” Lausman on the morning of Friday, Dec. 20.

All swags will be left throughout the Christmas season before being removed per churchyard’s request by Wednesday, Jan. 15.

Does Rock Hall stand on the shores of the Chesapeake Bay, or is it a riverside community of the Chester like neighboring Chestertown? Or, is it not so simple?
